No matter how nicely dressed and groomed a person is, if the person has motives that are not apparent in the first meeting, people become wary of such a person.
I’ve experienced it recently at a large tradeshow. A woman came up to me, smiling. I thought she wanted to know about what the experts at the booth and I had to offer. So I told her about our offerings. She then only said one thing: may I have your business card? I gave it to her.
Right then my internal alarm bell rang.
I’ve attended many tradeshows in the past in which people would just ask for business owners’ business cards without telling them why. 10 times out of 10, they wanted to sell people something without telling them right then and there. This sneaky way of prospecting is a real turn off to prospects.
Today, I received an email from the same woman with a letter attached. The letter praised the booth layout and how impressed she was, then she proceeded to tell me about the tradeshow she was organizing, and the price structure for the booths available. She even signed with “sincerely”. It is absolutely, totally insincere.
Will I give her business? No. Will I refer her company to others? No.
Sneaky selling is a big faux pas that really busts a person’s image. Today’s society is very much sales based - which is good in the way that it is easy for prospects to know what is available. But not good in the way that people are being sold on things they do not really need, and when persuaded to buy, they regret their decision soon after.
If sales is your profession, do so with your heart. Do not think the amount of dollar you may get from a person, but think from the prospects’ point of view - how can they benefit from your product or service offering? If they truly do not see it even after your heartfelt explanation, let it go - when a sale is meant to be, it will be!

Well recently in an Internet forum I read a column where two gentlemen were arguing over the silliest thing. Whether or not to put stationary exercise bikes into spacecraft? Yah, ha ha ha, that’s what I thought too and as I read about why this is supposedly a great innovative idea; where the bikes would also generate power to charge the batteries; I thought well okay whatever.
Then a forum participant gets on and says; “May I ask what sort of BS this is about? “Reality rears its ugly head again, spewing red-hot truth to vaporize the delusions of fools.”
Do you have a better idea to generate power or harvest power from the body to use in conjunction with or in addition to the systems of any vessel, vehicle, bicycle, back-pack, jogging light, communication device, space module? Any at all? If so let’s here them; because really this is not a place to shoot down ideas, it is a place to discuss them.
If you have none to discuss or any solutions and merely wish to shoot down everything you see with a quickie comment then one might be inclined to consider you have nothing to offer and indeed aren’t you really wasting everyone’s time? If you have a theory, then lets here it? Have a better solution we are waiting? It is easy to shoot down an idea with a negative baseless comment, far different to have and idea, make it happen and then modify it for maximum efficiency while you search of the “killer ap” so if you have an idea to make this work or another idea to harvest the energy from the human bio-system or the vibrational impulses to use for an application. I would certainly personally be interested in discussing it.
You state; “Even a world-class athlete is only good for about 1/3 of a horsepower over a long period (more than 30 minutes). That translates to about 250 watts.”
Our astronauts are in pretty good shape and I have run a four-minute mile in college and I would call that world class plus? How about you? Play any sports? Have any balls? Do you have the right stuff? Or are you a negative person, with no mind over body, no personal character, no belief in yourself, no motivation, no solutions and no one listening to you dribble any longer? Buy a mirror and ask yourself? Because this is a place for winners, thinkers, doers and innovators.
If you have a better idea, a theory or something worthy of mention, stop holding back and let’s talk? If not, your personal value to such is creating a problematic situation and is limiting the forward progression of mankind.
You state; “And in space a 1 square meter solar cell will produce about that much (at 22%).”
Indeed but are you saying that astronauts and those under the sea in a Submarine, should not exercise? Are you saying when they do? Well, let’s just piss away all that energy? Are you saying MIT’s new crank laptop concept to help cross the digital divide is also stupid? What are you saying? You seem to talk about energy and then you want to waste it? Wasting energy so this is your theme today?
Wow interesting a heated debate over stationary bicycles in outer space? What is the World coming to when people argue over such silly things? What is going on with the human race on these Blogs and Internet Forums anyway? Consider all this in 2006.
