Time Management and Your Big Rocks

Posted on January 30th, 2009 — in Information Parlor

In Steven Covey’s excellent book, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” he tells a well-worn story about the use of time.

In the story, some professor guy (I think) stands at the front of a class, with a big jar. In the jar, first of all he puts some big rocks, and asks the class, “Is it full now”.

Mostly they say, “Yes”.

Then he gets some smaller rocks and these fit in quite nicely too, just between the big rocks. Again, he asks the same question, “Is it full now?”

The group, a little more suspicious say, “Yes”, because it seems to be.

He then gets out a bag of sand and surprise, surprise, those tiny grains of sand squeeze down beside the smaller rocks, filling up the tinier spaces. “Full?”, he asks.

“Sure”, say the increasingly dubious bunch of students in the audience.

Finally, trump card is the water, smaller than sand, of course and finally, as we aren’t getting too sub-molecular about it, the jar is full.

Impressive huh?

The professor then asks,

“What’s the moral of the story?”

Of course the class, thinking they’ve spotted the trick here, say,

“You can always squeeze a bit more in”

A standard and pretty smart reply. The professor, however, is a step a head (all that professorism does it, of course!).

“The moral of the story is that you need to get your big rocks in first, or all that other ’stuff’ gets in, way too soon and takes up all the space.”

Cool story?

The point of course, relates to managing your time.

What are your ‘big rock’ things?

Well, for sure it isn’t all the little jobs you do. All the fire-fighting (or it may be in the short-term, but that is another day).

The trick is to create spaces, ring-fenced, as they say, to do the good stuff.

In business, this is a list something like this:-

1. Planning for the future 2. Time with your people - good, focused one-on-one time preferably 3. Coaching your people in their work 4. Developing others around you 5. Delegating constructively 6. Creating Succession Plans 7. Building relationships 8. Developing new business opportunities 9. Fixing problems once and for all 10. Making time for a life outside the business

There are more!

Covey and his big rocks eh?

He calls them Quadrant Two activities. If you don’t spend time putting these first into your schedule, truth is, you will never fit them in and things will never evolve and grow.

Natural Acne Treatment For Your Skin

Posted on January 25th, 2009 — in Uncategorized

Acne is an embarrassing problem affecting both adults and teens today at ever increasing rates. Many of the prescription and over the counter treatments sold for this condition treat only the surface symptoms without ever addressing the underlying causes. In the long run, these treatments can actually make acne worse by suppressing the symptoms, drying the skin and causing further imbalances. Many of these treatments are expensive and have very serious side effects as well.

Natural acne remedies are less expensive and more effective than prescription medications in treating this common problem. Most are made of plant extracts that dry up pimples and soothe the skin. For example, tea tree oil has been used for thousands of years as a natural antibacterial and acne treatment with great success. Many other natural acne treatments contain grapeseed oil, vitamin E, calendula and aloe vera. Applied topically, these extracts have soothing and drying effects on the breakouts.

Acne can also be treated with dietary changes. Most importantly, drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water per day flushes toxins from the system and hydrates the body. Limiting processed foods and substituting whole foods including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains also has benefits for the skin.

Adding a good multivitamin to your daily regimen will also help your body beat acne “from the inside out.” Vitamin A, B, C, E, chromium and zinc are all vital for healthy skin. Azelaic acid, available in your health foods store, restricts keratin production and helps beat acne, with results that rival benzyl peroxide and retin A.

Since many of today’s prescription medications are harsh and carry the risk of devastating side effects, why not try a natural acne treatment? Not only will you save time and money, but your skin will thank you as well.

Posted on January 24th, 2009 — in Jewels + Jewelry

The term wholesale implies the selling of a good in bulk or large quantity. Wholesale body jewelry is the concept of selling jewelry in large quantities, say in dozens rather than as a single piece, to the retail market and in turn sold to customers. Buying jewelry in wholesale is the smartest way to make money. Wholesale body jewelry suppliers sell jewelry in bulk and at comparatively low prices. So people find it a great way to start saving money.

Wholesale body jewelry can be found in various metals and designs to suit your style and pocket. The wholesale body jewelry available with dealers includes belly rings, bent barbells with colored barbells, labret studs, captive bead rings, tongue rings, naval ornaments, nose rings, eyebrow rings, etc. While buying body jewelry in wholesale, it becomes imperative to check the credentials and credibility of the dealer, especially in regard to the genuineness of the jewelry.

The benefits of buying jewelry in wholesale are that as a retailer you will have a chance to sell your jewelry to the consumers at a reasonable profit. Another big advantage is that since the wholesale dealers purchase jewelry directly from the manufacturers themselves, so you can be assured of getting the latest designs that you can in turn sell to your clients at reasonable margins.

How to Choose the Correct Chiropractic Billing Software

Posted on January 22nd, 2009 — in Uncategorized

One important step in finding the perfect chiropractic billing software program to fit your needs is to take a look at your existing computer equipment. With system needs changing on a virtually daily basis, it is necessary that the software program you choose be compatible with your hardware. You also have the option of upgrading your system if it is not currently compatible with the software option you choose.

Giving a rough estimate, there are approximately 30 different vendors that deal in chiropractic billing software. Prices can range from a couple hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. While cost is certainly a consideration, assuring that you get the best quality software to meet your needs should be the primary consideration. Many new chiropractors, fresh out-of-school may decide to go with a discount software solution in order to save costs. Experts in the field suggest that skimping on costs in the beginning can cause a huge headache in the future. It is often a lot of trouble and work to change over systems; not to mention that your files will temporarily be on hold while the change occurs. A good word of advice is to thoroughly examine your needs and then choose the appropriate chiropractic billing software program for your practice - base your decision on need, not cost.

Chiropractic billing software can be a godsend for many practices. Not only will you save valuable space from limiting your need for paper files, your office staff will also be able to retrieve important medical information in a virtual instant. Most offices claim that the best aspect of the electronic billing software is the ability to instantly file insurance claims. This is an excellent way to reduce the cost of office staff and postage. Many of these billing software programs also have a built-in clearinghouse feature to enable the business manager to track and locate any outstanding claims.

Those using some of the more advanced chiropractic billing software programs are able to perform a wide variety of tasks that, in the past, could have taken hours or even days. Some programs allow the administrator to submit claims on a patient to multiple insurance companies. Other programs make billing less complicated when dealing with HCFA, Worker’s Compensation and Medicare: these programs have the necessary forms built into the program and are easily accessed. It is obvious that there is a plethora of variances in software; the key is to know what you need in a program and search for one that closely resembles your needs.

Spyware Definitions List

Posted on January 22nd, 2009 — in Uncategorized

The adware and spyware definitions list is very long. But the definitions listed below are the most common ones. This is a glossary of spyware facts and terms so you’ll know what these malicious programs are and what they can do to your computer.

Adware

Adware components are generally installed along with a shareware or freeware programs you download. The adware developer creates pop up windows that generate advertisement revenue for them. Most adware components are actually installed with consent from the user. This happens because most people never read the end-user license agreement that comes with software.

Spyware

Spyware is most often installed bundled with freeware or shareware, much like adware. Spyware programs gather and transmit sensitive and personal information about your online behavior to an unknown party. The data is collected without you even knowing it happened. By the time you discover it, the damage is done and the hacker is long gone.

Browser Hijackers

Browser hijackers are innocently installed as helpful browser toolbars. They can alter your browser settings and can change your default home page to point to a site that generates revenue for the hijacker.

Trojan Horse Programs

Trojan horse programs sneak into your system and run without you realizing it similar to spyware. Programmers use these programs for any number of malicious uses and not one of them you would approve of. The good thing is Trojan horse programs do not duplicate themselves.

Tracking cookies

Tracking cookies are files with small amounts of data like passwords and settings. Tracking cookies can provide a benefit to you especially if you revisit the same web sites. But in the wrong hands, cookies are used to track your Internet behavior without your knowledge or consent and provides marketers with private information about you.

Keyloggers

Keyloggers are programs that run in the background silently recording all your keystrokes. Once the keystrokes are logged, the hacker uses a remote keyloggers program to retrieve the data later. The hacker can get your passwords, credit card numbers and any personal information on your computer.

Malware

The definition of malware is any malicious software or program that will harm your computer. Computer viruses, worms and Trojans are all considered malware, but several other types of programs may also be included under the term.

Password Cracker

A password cracker is simply a program used to decrypt a password or password file. Security administrators use password crackers for legitimate use by using them to improve system security. But the dangers when a hacker gets a program like this is unimaginable.

There are many other spyware definitions including scumware, annoyanceware, parasites and the list continues to grow daily.

Nature Healing Method for Acne

Posted on January 20th, 2009 — in Uncategorized

The treatment of acne by the administration of salve or ointment does not serve any purpose. They only suppress the action of the sebaceous glands temporarily. In nature cure, the main emphasis is on diet and certain water applications.

To begin with the patient should resort to all fruit diet for about a week. In this regimen, there should be three meals a day, consisting of fresh juicy fruits, such as apples, pears, grapes, grape-fruit, pineapple and peaches. Citrus fruits, bananas, dried, stewed or tinned fruits should not be taken. Unsweetened lemon or plain water,
either hot or cold, should be drunk and nothing else. During this period, warm -water enema should be taken daily to cleanse the bowels and all other measures adopted to eradicate constipation.

After a week of all fruit diet, the patient can gradually adopt a well-balanced diet. Emphasis
should be on raw foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables, sprouted seeds, raw nuts and
whole grain cereals, especially millet and brown rice. Further shorter periods on the all-fruits for
three days, or so may be necessary at a monthly interval till the condition of the skin improves.
Strict attention to diet is essential for recovery. Starchy, protein and fatty foods, should be
restricted. Meats, sugar, strong tea or coffee, condiments, pickles, refined and processed foods
should all be avoided, as also soft drinks, candies, ice cream and products made with sugar and
white flour.

Two vitamins, namely, niacin and vitamin A have been used successfully to treat acne. The
vitamin therapy which may comprise a niacin, 100 mg. three times daily and vitamin A in large
doses upto 1,50,000 units per day should not exceed one month. Vitamin E is also vitally
important to prevent scarring from acne and in removing old scars.
Another effective remedy in the realm of nutrition that seems to offer new promise of help for
acne is zinc. It has shown dramatic results in some cases. Zinc should be taken in therapeutic
doses of 50 mg. three times a day. After noticeable improvement it can be gradually reduced.

Local Treatment

As regards local treatment, hot fomentation should be applied to open up the pores and squeeze
the waste matter. Then rinse with cold water. Sun and air baths by exposing the whole body to
sun and air are highly beneficial. The healing packs made of grated cucumber, oatmeal cooked
in milk, and cooked, creamed carrots used externally, have been found to be effective.

The orange peel is valuable in the treatment of acne. The peel, pounded well with water on a
piece of stone, should be applied to the affected areas. The lemon has also proved beneficial in
removing pimples and acne . It should be applied regularly.
A teaspoonful of coriander juice, mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder, is another effective
home remedy for pimples and blackheads. The mixture should be applied to the face after
thoroughly washing it, every night before retiring.

The juice of raw potatoes has also proved very valuable in clearing skin blemishes. This
cleansing results from high content of potassium sulphur, phosphorous and chlorine in the
potato. These elements are, however, of value only when the potato is raw as in this state they
are composed of live organic atoms.

A hot Epsom-salt bath twice a week will be highly beneficial in all cases of acne. This bath is
prepared by adding one and a half kg. of Epsom -salt to 50 litres of water having a temperature
of about 100 o F. The patient should remain in the bath from 25 to 35minutes till he perspires
freely. After the bath the patient should cool off gradually.

Having A Sweet Tooth May Not Help Your Acne

Posted on January 19th, 2009 — in Uncategorized

Many dermatologists and acne sufferers believe that excessive sugar consumption aggravates acne conditions. Many other dermatologists, however, do not believe that there is enough evidence to link sugar consumption and acne.

Many people who suffer from acne can detect a pattern having to do with their diet and their acne breakouts. These people have noticed over time that particular foods will instigate the appearance of pimples and blemishes. For many people, chocolate and other sugary snacks are obvious irritants to a pre-existing acne condition.

Other acne sufferers, however, do not detect any relationship between sugary foods and their acne condition. And of course there are all those people who seem to be able to eat all the sugar they want without having to worry about ever developing a pimple or a blemish.

The truth is that sugar reacts differently in different bodies. While the consumption of sugar has no ill effects on one person, it can cause all sorts of trouble for another person. The way sugar reacts within a person’s body has to do with that person’s hormonal make up.

When a person consumes sugary foods, the person’s blood sugar rises sharply and rapidly. This spike in blood sugar is directly related to how much sugar is ingested. In response to this spike in the level of blood sugar, the body excretes hormones such as insulin and other hormones. The sugar is then allowed to enter the cells of the liver and the cells that comprise muscular tissue. Any sugar that is left over when this process is complete is stored as fat.

The consumption of sugar triggers a process in which hormones must surge and fat is created quickly. The body then contains an excess of androgenic hormones. It is the job of the liver to rid the body of excess hormones - but the liver’s capacity to do this changes from liver to liver. Some people have very strong livers that can process and deactivate large amounts of excess hormones, while other people have livers that become easily overwhelmed. When the liver is unable to process and deactivate excess hormones, these hormones cause the sebum glands to produce too much oil in the skin. This skin oil, combined with the fat in the blood, can cause aggravation of acne.

It is difficult for some people to envision a diet that does not include sugar. But if you believe that your acne condition is worsened when you ingest large amounts of sugar, then it may be time to start taking measures to correct this problem.

If you do not believe that your acne condition is aggravated by sugar consumption, you may be right. But it may not hurt to experiment with some changes in diet to see if there might be foods that are particular irritants to your acne. If you can detect which foods make your acne worse through trial and error experimentation, then you can avoid those foods in the future.

If you choose to experiment with a diet that is low in sugar, you should avoid candy, chocolate, and any other foods that contain processed sugars. You should also avoid fruit juices except those that are low in sugar. High sugar fruits should be eaten sparingly. Natural sugars such as honey, maple syrup, and molasses, can be used in small quantities.

What is Fleet Maintenance Management?

Posted on January 18th, 2009 — in Uncategorized

Fleet Maintenance Management is a critical position in any company that has a number of commercial vehicles. The individual responsible for the management and maintenance of fleet vehicles performs a variety of functions. It is imperative that companies such as delivery drivers or even taxi services know what is going on with their vehicles at all times. Preventative maintenance, order/vendor logging and fuel economy are among a few of the issues that fleet maintenance managers deal with on a daily basis.

One of the most important duties of a fleet maintenance manager is the maintenance of vehicles. With the number of vehicles many companies have on the road each day, maintaining quality vehicles is important. Regular and controlled fleet vehicle maintenance can assist in more efficient and lower cost repairs, fewer technical problems and more efficient tracking, management and budgeting of the fleet. An outstanding fleet vehicle maintenance program can save time and money by ensuring that vehicles are safe and on time.

Repairs and downtime for fleet vehicles can cost your company a considerable amount of money. High-quality fleet vehicle maintenance can mean the difference in your company’s reputation being one of top-notch service rather than undependable service. Preventative maintenance and scheduling routine maintenance or repairs can extend the life of your fleet vehicles. Many fleet vehicle managers find that using a specialized software program is the best way to organize these needed elements.

With the high cost of fuel today, fleet managers also take into consideration the fuel usage among the vehicles. Fleet maintenance software programs often have features that enable the manager to appropriately budget for gas. The ability to log and track the mileage of drivers can give the manager a good idea of the average fuel consumption of each vehicle in the fleet.

Fleet maintenance managers occupy important positions within a company. Most managers within top U.S. companies recommend the use of high-quality fleet maintenance software programs. These programs enable the fleet managers to keep detailed records and logs of everything that happens with each vehicle. For companies whose primary service depends on well-maintained vehicles, organization and tracking of the fleet and expenses is obviously a key responsibility. Your company’s business reputation is important and it is essential that the fleet manager is able to accurately maintain an exceptional level of quality of all vehicles in your fleet.

With all of the products available on the market, the fleet maintenance management needs to examine the company’s needs to find the product best suited for them. The manager may choose to examine some of the top products by taking advantage of free trials offered by most companies. During the free trial, you are generally capable of performing the full range of functions in order to get a good feel for the product. This is a critical first step in choosing the software program that is right for your company.

Fleet Maintenance Software Info provides comprehensive information on fleet maintenance software, reviews and programs for commercial vehicles. Fleet Maintenance Software Info is the sister site of Preventive Maintenance Software Web.

Rescue The Face Behind ACNE

Posted on January 16th, 2009 — in Uncategorized

Acne is one of the most common of all skin problem. It affects most teenagers to some degree and even many adults. Acne shows up as Whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and, in some people, deep painful bumps that look and feel like boils. Acne most commonly occurs on the face but can also appear on the back, chest, shoulders, and neck.

Am I the only one with acne?

You are definitely not the only one with acne. It is estimated that 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 25 suffer from some degree of acne, so you are not alone. In most people, acne clears up after a few years. But at its worst, acne can cause permanent scarring of the skin. And even when there are few physical marks left, the emotional ones can be devastating.

Why am I getting acne?

Acne usually begins around puberty, when members of both sexes experience an increase in the production of the sex hormones called androgens. These hormones regulate the activity and size of the oil-producing, or sebaceous, glands that reside in the pores, or hair follicles of your skin. The increased production of these hormones causes the oil glands to get bigger in the areas where acne occurs.

The sebaceous glands make an oily substance called sebum. Sebum travels through the hair follicles to the surface of the skin. The lining of the wall of the hair follicles sheds skin cells, which then stick together with the sebum. The follicle gets clogged, plugging up the opening in the surface of the skin. Whiteheads and blackheads are the result of this clogging of the pores. The sebum and cell debris together contribute to the growth of bacteria that live in the pores.

Your own body will naturally attempt to clear the clogged pores by sending in certain specialized cells that invade the follicles to help clean it up. However, in the process, the wall of the follicles may weaken and rupture, emptying the contents of the follicles into the surrounding tissue. When this occurs, swelling or redness can develop around the affected follicles, resulting in the larger bumps or pimples characteristics of acne. These are known as papules and pustules and can sometimes cause scarring.

From the begining until its disappearance, the life cycle of a pimple can take 8 weeks to run its course. And it can take even longer for the darkened spots left by some acne pimples to fade completely.

The aim of acne therapy is to unclog the plugged pores and keep them clear by using effective medicines such as retinoids (adapalene, tretinoin). Sometimes antibiotics or benzoyl peroxide may be prescribed to help control the bacteria that may be growing inside your pores.

Is there anything I can do about my acne?

There are numerous treatment options for people who suffers from acne. How your dermatologist decides to treat your acne will depend on the severity oy your acne.

What kind of cleanser should I use?

Acne is not caused by dirt. Of course, you should cleanse your face, but too much vigorous washing can dry your skin too much, or even aggravate your acne. Cleansing twice a day is sufficient. Your dermatologist may recommend that you use a mild, nonsoap, fragrance-free cleanser (e.g. Cetaphil Gentel Skin Cleanser) that won’t dry or irritate your skin.

Should I use a moisturizer?

Since some acne medications can be drying, it may be helpful to use a moisturizer. Your dermatologist may recommend a mild, fragrance-free, nonirritating moisturizer (e.g. Cetaphil moisturising cream) that is noncomedogenic.

Can I prevent my acne from coming back?

The regimen that your dermatologist has prescribed will help you get rid of whatever acne pimples you have now, and it will also work to prevent new ones from appearing. By using your medication correctly and consistently, you can help prevent new acne pimples from forming. If you stop using your medication, or if you onlu “spot-treat” those pimples you can see, new pimples may form, and they may take weeks to clear again. Apply our medication in the same way every day or as recommended by your dermatologist.

Can acne be cured?

There is no instant or immediate cure for acne. But it can be controlled, and scarring may be prevented with proper care and treatment. Again, correct and consistent use of your acne medication and following your dermatologist’s instruction will be your best bet.
