Affluent Men Will Spend Twice As Much on Holiday Gifts For Their Spouse As Do Women

Posted on June 20th, 2008 — in Lots Of Travel Resources

Men reported spending much more in 2004 than women on December holiday (Christmas and Hanukah) gifts in a recent survey of the wealthiest 10% of U.S. households. The differences in 2005 gift expenditures will be about the same or a little greater, as men plan to reduce their spending less than women in 2005.

Men reported spending an average of $1,212 on holiday gifts for their spouse, more than double the average $568 spent by women on their spouse. Spending by men (and women) for holiday gifts was $948 ($604) for children under 18, $1,896 ($1,044) for children 18 and over, $734 ($549) for other relatives, and $523 ($395) for friends.

Average gift expenditures for a spouse were highest among those 60 and over ($1,575 versus $740 for those under 60) and those with a net worth of $6 million or more ($2,617 versus $744 for those with a net worth of $1 to $6 million). Those with an income above $200,000 averaged $1,188 versus $601 for those under $200,000 in income.

Average gift expenditures for children under 18 were highest among those 60 and over ($3,835 versus $760 for those under 50), those with a net worth of over $6 million ($1,395 versus $759 for those with a net worth of $1 to $6 million), and those with the higher income ($897 versus $607 for those with incomes above and below $200,000 respectively).

Average gift expenditures for children 18 and over were highest among those over 60 ($2,226 versus $1,191 for those 50 to 59), those with a net worth over $6 million ($4,097 versus $1,219 for those with a net worth of $1 to $6 million), and those with the higher income ($2,075 versus $1,092 for those with incomes above and below $200,000 respectively).

Average expenditures for other relatives and for friends showed a pattern similar to that of children, but the differences were somewhat smaller.

The average expenditure of spenders, weighted by the percent buying for that type of person, totaled $2,807 for the people represented by this survey. That is about five times the average of $565 for all adults, based on a recent survey for The National Retail Federation.

These results were obtained from the recently completed Fall 2005 “Affluent Market Tracking Study #8″ by The American Affluence Research Center. A continuing series of twice-yearly surveys, these studies track the 12- month economic outlook and spending plans of the wealthiest 10% of Americans, the 11 million households representing about half of all consumer income and spending and a third of the total US economy. These are the consumers who have helped the more upscale retailers to out perform others in recent years.

The survey participants were asked to identify the people to whom they would give holiday gifts this year. They were then asked how much they had spent on those people in 2004 and by how much their expenditure would change in 2005.

Highlights of the national survey of 448 men and women in the wealthiest 10% of U.S. households can be found on the AARC website, www.affluenceresearch.org. The survey participants have an average income of $308,000 and an average net worth of $2.7 million. The survey has a 5% margin of error at the 95% confidence level.

Initially Rodeos were associated with Texas only but now its events have spread their wings throughout the globe.

The Stock shows are of great significance in Rodeo proceedings. In this the animals are studied, adjudicated and rewarded and even auctioned. The event is termed as the Cowboy Roundup USA in which the cowboys compete with each other sprinkling fun and enthusiasm throughout the place.
The World’s Greatest Horsemanship Competition is attended by multitude of people. It is the time when the cowboy and his horse parade their talents to score, win and of course enjoy.

The Chuck Wagon Cooking is another exciting event. The Ranch rodeos teams prepare the best of the food and also present it. The Mesqite Championship that runs from April to September is also another pull. The location is the Amarillo National Center and the Amarillo Tri State Fairgrounds. The proceedings take place in the large Resistol Arena that is wonderfully decorated and its design specifically caters to the comfort of the audiences. The cowboy hangs for his life in the bull riding and the saddle bronc competitions. The youth can experience the pleasure of the Calf Scramble which goes on contemporaneous with other events.

Especially meant for the kids’ amusement is the petting zoo where the children can have a close encounter with some of the gentler critters like a pony, rabbit, baby sheep and goat, calf etc. When it comes to food, the Sonny Bryan’s BBQ Pavilion offers a delectable cuisine and the coveted opportunity to dine with the cowboys.

Camping: Is There A Difference From One Tent To The Next?

Posted on June 17th, 2008 — in World Of Leisure

Imagine! You wake up in the morning, the sun is shining, the birds and chirping and the temperature is nice and warm. That dream can come true but weather conditions can either make you happy or miserable as there is no guarantee. The outcome depends on you. On a cold, stormy night, the last thing that you need is to be freezing while soaking in dripping water and praying that the strong wind does not make your tent collapse on you as well. That is why, a camping tent should be able to protect you from Mother Nature’s fury by insuring you both comfort and protection.

What is the difference between tents?

Well, there is more to a tent than brand names and a vast range of prices. Depending on how you intend to use your tent and what you are looking for, the cheaper version can either satisfy your needs or offer you the guarantee that you will only use it once in your lifetime. In this last instance, your choice of camping tent will have cost you more than a more expensive and practical selection. In the end, was your “bargain” as good as you first thought?

That is why, beside prices, you should look at a few important points to consider before you complete your purchase. Brand names can also make you pay for the name as some will be as good as cheaper options. It all comes back to one thing: “What are you looking for in a tent?”

While you are shopping for a camping tent, you should answer a few questions such as:

How many people will sleep in this tent?

What size of tent should I consider purchasing to ensure that both campers and camping gear will fit?

What type of structure are you looking for?

Are you good in following instructions or is it a plain nightmare just to even think about it?

Do you intend to use it during all year round or mainly during the warmer months?

What are the options that you are looking for in a tent?

Does size really matter?

Well, depending on how you plan to use the interior of your tent, size does matter. Of course, if your tent will shelter a person or two, you do not need a family size tent but if the other way around occurs, you might consider space an important feature to allow both comfort and storage as part of the deal.

Unless your selection indicates that it is roomy enough to fit both the amount of campers and their camping gear, you may prefer to go for at least and extra person’s sleeping capacity in order to fit everyone and everything. For example, if you wish to choose something that fits two people and their gear, you may prefer a three person’s tent. If you intend to use camping gear such as a foldable picnic table, you may prefer a four person’s tent.

Height is also a great feature as depending on your size and the shape you’re in, the higher may be better to allow people to stand up and have headspace.

What other features should you be looking for?

You may find that one entrance may be enough as more can be convenient. You may choose windows to peek through instead of staring at a plain side of nylon. You may find practical to have a lot of storage pockets available.

Other features may also make your camping experience an enjoyable one. For example, color coded poles or dome tents may facilitate the set up of your shelter as another type may provide you with both stress and a big headache instead of a good shelter. Antisnag material around zippers is an important feature to prevent problems or damages.

Maybe you prefer a freestanding tent if you wish to have headspace height all around instead of in the central zone such as the one you have in a dome tent.

Also, depending on your camping needs, you may require a four-season tent that can also face the snow accumulation, the wind and the cold of winter otherwise; the three-season option may be the one for you. Would you like the added protection of a rain fly cover or the practical use of a vestibule?

As you can see, there are as many options in camping tents as there are questions that need to be answered to fit your needs all the way. That is why you should also consider browsing among the top rated camping tents and do the necessary research before you that the final steps of purchasing the tent that is right for you. Make your dreams come true!

Years ago, I was initiated to the joys of camping by a former colleague of mine. We traveled from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada to Tijuana, Mexico. I have learned several ways to enjoy camping and the first rule of thumb was to start with the best tent that fits all your needs. If you wish to read more information about the top rated camping tents, I invite you to visit my site at: http://camping.findoutnow.org

Ensure a Pleasant Summer Road Trip by Showing your Vehicle a little TLC

Posted on June 16th, 2008 — in Cars

With so many wonderful and interesting U.S. cities, an increasing number of Americans are forgoing international travel in favor of road trips to the beach, mountains, and other domestic hotspots. If you count yourself among them, make sure your vehicle is in good condition before hitting the wide, open road. The following list of summer maintenance check points will help ensure a safe ride to your vacation destination.

1. There’s a lot riding on your tiresmake sure they can handle it.
If your tires are still in good shape, prevent unnecessary wear by rotating them whenever you change the oil. (RK Toyota technicians recommend a rotation every 6,000 miles.) If the tread on your tires is fairly worn, consider replacing them before departing. If you see the “wear bars” (rubber strips that usually are darker than the tire), replace your tires immediately. RK Toyota technicians also maintain that proper tire inflation is vital. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for the proper pressure.

2. Like tires, brakes are crucial to your family’s safety.
RK Subaru technicians advocate having brakes checked whenever tires are rotated. If your brakes make unusual squealing or grinding noises when you hit them, or if the steering wheel pulls to one side, you might need new brakes. If your car has an anti-lock braking system (ABS), as most recent models do, pay attention to your dashboard indicators. If, after about 2 seconds, the ABS light goes out, the system is in good working order. If the light stays on, have a mechanic check your brakes.

3. Pay attention to belts and hoses to decrease the risk of a breakdown.
Fan belts, which used to last about a year, are now much more durable, so people tend to neglect them. However, RK Subaru technicians report that belts and hoses are the second-biggest cause of auto breakdowns after failed batteries. Have the belts and hoses checked during an oil change or other service visit.

Cultivating Positive Media Relationships

Posted on June 15th, 2008 — in Promoting Stuff

Some people think that publicity is all about paparazzi snapping photos of celebs and intruding into their private lives — or as Woodward and Bernstein blowing the lid off of a government scandal. But, as a small business owner, publicity is actually one of your greatest allies! People who read about you in the newspaper or hear an interview with you on the radio will sit up and take notice — much more notice than if they simply see a flier of yours posted at the Laundromat. But you have to be in charge of your relationship with the media, and make sure that it is a good one!

FINDING YOUR LOCAL MEDIA OUTLETS

The first step to securing some good free publicity is hooking up with the right people. Sending information to a generic address at every major media outlet in your area is almost always a waste of time. You need to find someone who is ready, willing, and able to get your story covered. You should be able to purchase a “MEDIA GUIDE” from local PR firm — choose a large one with a good reputation. This will provide you with the names and addresses of editors, staff writers, producers, and other key contacts for print, radio, and TV.

WHO SHOULD GET YOUR PRESS RELEASE?

Make sure you send your press release to the APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT at whichever media outlets you select. So if you are writing an article about organizing a business, send it to the business editor — for cleaning out a closet, direct your release to a staff writer in the home and garden department. But don’t limit yourself to publications that specialize in your field of expertise — you never who will see your story as something unique and worth covering.

AVOIDING THE TRASH BIN

Editors and publishers are bombarded by tons of publicity requests each day — and unfortunately, many press releases get tossed before they are ever read. But you can improve your odds by PERSONALIZING your package. It’s usually best, at small offices, to send your piece to the editor or producer. However, at larger newspapers, magazines, and radio stations, you may have better luck getting a staff writer or columnist to review your proposal. Always VERIFY your contact’s name (check the spelling!) and department. If you send a press release addressed simply to “editor” or “producer,” your package will probably go straight into the trash! No matter how much time or energy it takes, it’s always better to target a specific individual.

MAKING YOUR COMPANY ATTRACTIVE

It’s not going to do you any good to send out a press release if no one looks at it! Your job is to make your company as attractive to your media contacts as possible. A great way to stand out from the crowd is to include SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS to entice your readers. Include tips related to your area of expertise, quote relevant statistics, share hero stories about clients you have helped, and throw in a few fliers about your business. Slip in a few photos of your products or your work — or better yet, a demo tape. You might propose a SPECIAL OFFER (”call in and mention this article to receive $25 off!) to be run in conjunction with the story.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT

Reporters are most easily impressed with PREPARATION. Call first to let your contact know that you are sending a press release — this alerts them to your presence even before they get your submission. Always double check your facts and figures before submitting your press release. Be sure to call all for the organization’s submission procedures — don’t expect to send in a press release about spring cleaning in April if your target magazine has a deadline three months before publication! And practice your INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES before hand — you have to learn to think on your feet and articulate your thoughts clearly and concisely. Think in terms of sound bites and easily-quoted phrases.

IT’S ALL ABOUT BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

Working with media contacts is like working with clients — it’s never a one-shot deal. You have to STAY IN TOUCH with your media contacts and build lasting relationships before they will feel comfortable handling your story. Rather than simply mailing your press release, take the reporter to lunch to discuss how you can help them find a good story. Send your media contacts tidbits about possible stories that you think might interest them. Offer to make introductions. And always follow up with a PERSONAL NOTE. You are no longer a “grabber” — you are now part of a symbiotic and mutually beneficial professional relationship.

PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF

You aren’t going to get bowled over with publicity right away. Accept that fact from the beginning, and you won’t get disappointed. Publicity is a “NUMBERS GAME” — the more people you contact, the more press releases you send out, and the more often you send them, the better your chances of getting some good press. So let people know of every interesting move you make with your business — they will become familiar with your company and eventually find a way to include your story.
